FD Beginner Online Guitar Course

Buy from Amazon

Due to start early March  2011, this online beginner guitar lessons course will work through Ernie Ball’s “How To Play Guitar – Phase 1” book.

This course is a FREE addition available to all members of Fretboard Domination.

This book consists of two parts:

  • White Pages: This section is all about learning to play single note melodies. You will also learn to read music.
  • Yellow Pages: This section is about chords. Learning to strum and play chords to the ‘melodies’ you learn in the ‘White Pages’ section.

You should purchase this book if you want to follow along.

I use this book with all my beginner guitar students. It’s clear, simple and very easy to follow.

The only problem is… it’s hard going it alone. There’s so much “between-the-lines” stuff you need to know that’s NOT in the book. That’s why books are usually designed to be used with a guitar teacher who will fill in all those missing blanks for you.

And that’s what I will be doing here…

As well as providing weekly online guitar video lessons and backing tracks to practice along with, you’ll get helpful pdf’s and extra videos with additional tips, insider secrets, advice and other useful stuff that will fill in those missing “between-the-lines” blanks. You’ll also have access to the member forum where you can discuss the lessons with other members and ask questions.

I can’t guarantee your success. That’s up to you because, after all, you have to walk the walk and you only get back what you put in. But this easy to follow course certainly stacks the odds in your favor.

    Hi John,
How does E.Ball’s lessons differ from the ones I’ve
purchased from you- as ‘guitar lesson of the week-52
    lessons in all ?
By the way, thanks for your prompt answers.
And I enjoy your lessons that I purchased.
    Cheers,
    G.K.

It’s a traditional beginner course. With learning simple songs and learning to read music.

FD is not a beginner guitar course – it’s about applied theory. Music theory and fretboard theory.

Ordered both books one and two today. Even though I’ve had my guitar for over 30 years. Only played a few songs by following the chords in song books. But have a very deep bluegrass background. My dad is “Tut Taylor” flatpicking drobro man. Hope some of that rubs off on my guitar playing.

Should have written phase 1, I suppose not book 1,

    • JB Says:

      Either. :)

If I am going to go ahead with this, it’s going to be a LOT of hard, very organized, work on my part. I guess I can make a few videos of a few lessons and see what the response is. If everyone likes it and finds it helpful, I’ll go ahead. I’m setting out a plan to proceed. I’ll maybe break it into two parts… ‘White’ Pages and ‘Yellow’ pages.

Then, do I spread them out over a year, or make them last 6 months… that’s the question. Really, for a beginner, Phase 1 would normally take 10-12 months, depending on how hard and long they practice.

Feel free to leave your thoughts in a reply.

That will be great for me John -A beginner – you have written so much and I hope helped such a lot of people – you will be keeping your brains active – I reckon make it over 6 months gives us beginners time to peruse it all.

  8. Keith weston Says:

  11. Wally Says:

Time is a bit of a problem at the moment, but lets see how we get on!
I’m looking forward to the start….

    • JB Says:

@Wally – as you are saving the lessons to your computer you can work at your own pace. Though I suggest you do some practice every day. Even 10 minutes is better than none. But, hopefully, you will be motivated to do more once you start getting into it.

Something I could have used a year ago. Still I think it would be worth while to help cement ideas that I and others may have missed.

  13. Dominic Says:

I am looking forward to the start date.
