I played guitar since I was 10 years old. Once I left primary school I lost my teacher and so I ended up self teaching myself but never really learnt anything except how to play somebody elses songs. I ended up becoming frustrated over time and eventually put it away for 10 or 12 years. But then a nagging urge came back to pick it up again. I found this site and started through the lessons and finally I’m learning what I was missing. The lessons are simple and easy to understand. The theory is the key to everything for me. My guitar playing has improved rapidly as a result and I’m keen to push on now and see how far I can develop the skills.

I played guitar by hearing for 3 years and since then I never played guitar and that was 23 years ago. Five months ago I bought a guitar and also this product for quick reference and thanks I got the right one. Currently I can play rhythm and some solo using chords and notes. For a beginner wants to learn quickly how to play guitar even self study, I recommend Fretboard Domination video and comes with pdf files. The lessons guide you step by step and keep practice to learn quickly. Thanks JB for the lesson.

  3. Benjamin Warin Says:

JB’s method has given me the knowledge to find the notes and chords I need, without having to search for them. This I appreciate!

  4. Michael Cook Says:

Hi JB – I chanced on your You Tube site by accident and followed it through to the FD site. I have downloaded all the lessons and tips, which worked perfectly. I was really impressed by your teaching style and your really concise and clever diagrams and videos. After struggling around in the dark for a couple of years, suddenly the penny started to drop.

Your staggered pentatonic scale diagram just made sense straight away. After trolling through various books which show all the shapes as separate units, to see yours laid out as an interlocking pattern where every shape connects with the previous and where one can move around within each shape, it was a revelation. I couldn’t believe how easily you explained it. it just looked easy after all the previous head scratching.

Well done JB the rest of the course is exactly the same, no BS just straight talking. You have a rare gift JB, keep up the great work. Cheers Mick.

  5. Paul Jolly Says:

Like many others, I have been playing guitar for a while, but not improving. John’s lessons have improved my playing and my relationship with music. I’m beginning to have a clue about how music works, and it’s very exciting.

  6. david signaigo Says:

Through the years, I have spent a considerable amount of money on guitar teaching methods, but this is the best method to learn guitar. John is the best teacher you could have. He is very clear in his method and always responds if you have a question. Now, you do need to learn and practice every lesson. It will take a good year to learn, but you will be rewarded by being able to play and compose any music you like. Learn the basics, theory, and learn the fretboard. It takes time, but is well worth it. I always refer to John’s materials because of the knowledge I acquire. Knowledge is power. Look at any guitarist—Hendrix… Gilmour… Clapton… all use the basics—read their music…it’s the basics with attitude. All of those guys use/used the pentatonic scales and made millions! All you need is determination and commitment. I recommend John’s material to anyone; it is the best!

  7. Aaron Jordan Says:

JB, Your master pattern is distinctly different and a couple of leaps ahead, I saw that for the pentatonic scale and how I could modify the pattern for three notes per string and other variations which helps me combine modal scales in there and makes my playing more melodic and musical. You don’t get that kind of information just anywhere, thanks.
    Aaron

  8. Laurence Says:

    Hi John,

Great lessons. The single most important thing I have learned from your lessons is the concept of practicing ACCURATELY AND SLOWLY. I have always been guilty (and still am sometimes) of being impatient and trying to play far too fast when practicing and consequently “learn” to make mistakes instead of learning the correct fingering. Heaps of great info on the site and has been a real help. Thanks so much.

  9. John Says:

    Hey John,

Your course is very, very, very, comprehensive yet clear and concise. The guitar theory aspect is simple and easy to follow and understand. It goes hand in hand with the videos and backing tracks. Especially the explanation of the Master Scale Pattern which covers the whole fretboard. It serves as a skeleton overview of playing guitar. Your weekly lessons are spread out and broken down in stages. Each lesson builds upon each other. The course is well organized. John encourages you to take notes so you can visualize notes, chords, scales, etc. on the guitar fretboard and see how they work together. I started the course about three to four weeks ago. It’s awesome! John

  10. Laurie Says:

John has an easy teaching style. Not everyone who has a skill is able to impart the knowledge necessary in an easy to understand manner. John is able to do that. I have been able to start to jam along thanks to John. I’ve never been able to do that before! I’m taking it slowly as suggested, and making sure I have step 1 complete before I attempt step 2 etc. A brilliant course! Thanks very much indeed John.

  11. brl102 Says:

I learned more about chords from JB’s “Guitar Chord Secrets” book in 2 months of study and practice than in a year of searching the internet and books on how chords are formed and how they relate to each other. His videos are extremely well done and informative. I am a lifetime member of Fretboard Domination and highly recommended it for players of all skill levels.

  12. greg kleiner Says:

I’ve been playing the same parts of songs over and over for 35 years making noise not music. I found the free guitar chords.com site in ’09 and studied the free ebook then joined FD this year. I’ve come to understand mapping out all the notes on the fretboard and learning cord construction opened a whole new world with triads and inversions playing “little chords” all over the neck coupled with pentatonic patterns and chord tone soloing is the missing building blocks I’ve not found elsewhere. I’ve still have to learn to play in all keys. This site brings me pleasure not frustration.

  13. Jim Sharkey Says:

Fretboard Domination has, for me, been an excellent tool to improve my guitar playing. The lessons build on each other. The theory is very understandable and I’ve found I can clearly translate it to my playing. I also like JB’s story about how he came to learn guitar. I’m sure many of us have similar experiences. (That’s why I’m here). With that said the lessons are challenging and you need to work at them. There are no promises of results without work and that’s what I like about this site.

  14. Russel Dequito Says:

I’m not a beginner on guitar, played some gigs from 1980 to 2000. I would say I can do some alternate tuning too, but I’m totally nothing when it comes to theory. I’ve learned especially about Arpeggio and modes with FD, I agree with JB, to learn guitar for a month won’t bring you to be a better guitar player? It will take time and dedication to reach your goal, you need the right way step by step process and FD with JB will bring you better understanding how guitar sounds interesting.

  15. Gene Wilson Says:

I have been playing for about 2 years with limited progress before I found Fretboard Domination. I have steadily worked my way up to lesson 17 and now feel that I am realy beginning to build a solid foundation to my playing. JB’s comment regarding how the ability to play and understand chord patterns is fundamental to soloing. Not even half way through yet!!!

  16. Ian Shields Says:

JB I have the great pleasure of being a member of FD. Your lessons I received through the year have been terrific. When I started I knew 6 chords. Just yesterday I had a solo gig where I performed Christmas songs and carols in a lot of different keys. Used Barre chords I have 12 songs in the repertoire. I have to thank you for getting me started again. Oh by the way I’m 71 this year.

  17. Furry Says:

A big & often overlooked part of learning anything is finding a teacher who teaches in a way that enables you to easily understand & absorb what it is that you are trying to learn. JB does a great job explaining everything that you should be learning about the guitar but is so often presented in such a confusing & frustrating way that you just want to give up before you even start. The Fretboard domination site is a goldmine of information & if you do have any problems then extra help is just an email away. JB,great teacher, Fretboard Domination, great site, thank you JB for all your time, effort & hard work, long may you continue sir.

  18. Fraser Says:

To get the best out of Ftretboard Domination you also have to use it in conjunction with JB’s free ebook – Guitar Chord Secrets. Use these two together and you have an unbeatable source of tuition that you can keep going back to as often as you like, go over things as many times as it takes to really get the lessons under your fingers and learn in your own time. I’ve been with JB for a long time now and have the entire selection of FD lessons and videos – these are just great!!

  19. vern brooks Says:

I was a “day one”, complete beginner without a clue about music theory. I tried various programs on the internet all ending in frustration. I stumbled on FD and the light bulb went on. I am really pleased with the progress I am making. And, when a bit confused, drop a quick line to JB and you get a quick response to your question. The videos and instructions are easy to follow. Opened the guitar world for me.

  20. Philip Gutierrez Says:

I have been wanting to learn to play the guitar for decades, but short of taking lessons through a local teacher, have never progressed further than picking up a few chords from beginners books. With the internet there is a large selection of free online help and advice, which I have used, but in truth it is only picking (forgive the pun) at the subject and not tackling it seriously. Right from the start when I started watching JB’s videos there was something about his approach which I found intelligent, logical and structured. I’ve only just started really, but I have quickly discovered through Fretboard Domination some of the musical terms and concepts that I have encountered many many times before, but have only now been explained and made some sense. This has encouraged and excited me no end in to carrying on with this course.

  21. Steve Sanford Says:

I have had a guitar for 30 years and have tried numerous times to learn how to play. Until I was educated on the theory behind the music with Fretboard Domination I would get frustrated, disappointed and lose interest. Now that has changed thanks to JB’s insight and teachings. Don’t get me wrong, there is no course that will just hand you the ability to play this instrument. It still takes hard work, dedication and practice. I finally understand why things sound the way they do and how they relate to each other on the fretboard. I have much farther to go, but I know that with the information I am learning from this course, there is no way that my guitar will go back in the corner. Thanks for everything JB!!!

  22. Dallas Berry Sr Says:

I have found this course to be the best guitar learning course around for the money. The instruction and followup is exceptional. Every serious guitar player should know his or her way around the fretboard. Fretboard Domination answered a lot of my questions and unlocked the fretboard for me. Thanks John.

  23. Mohamed Samir Says:

    Salam

For about a year, I was trying to find a website or something that can help me out with the right advices and understand what I have to know as basics to learn about music, and 99.99% was kind of “Learn how to play like a pro in 7 days”. Till the day when I watched a video where J.B. was talking about theory, master pattern and some other things that answered a lot of questions accumulated in my mind during my previous experience when I was told what to do and not why and how. Yes with Fretboard Domination and in 3 months I learned and feel that all is connected and make sense in music, and guess what? I can play (not like a pro yet) and feel the improvement.
